Coactive Receives First Round of Venture Funding Investors Embrace Control Network Connectivity Technology

SAUSALITO, Calif., December 1, 1997 -- Coactive Aesthetics, Inc. today announced that it has received $2.75 million in venture capital funding. Founded in 1991 as a custom engineering firm, the company subsequently developed a suite of standard products to answer customer demand for device network connectivity. Coactive is now uniquely and exclusively focused on connecting device networks such as LonWorks to enterprise networks such as TCP/IP Ethernet.

“Bridging the world of control networks to that of computer networks is the next natural step in enterprise-wide connectivity,” said Gordon Campbell, chairman of the board. “Investors were excited by the potential of Coactive’s technology and by our advanced position in the market.”

Venture capital companies participating in the funding include Techfarm, Chase Venture Capital, and Charter Ventures. With this round of funding, Coactive plans to ramp up capacity for its initial suite of products and bring on additional employees. Sales and R&D efforts will also be expanded.

“The potential of control network connectivity is now beginning to show itself,” Campbell continued. “The investment community recognized Coactive as having a strong position of early leadership, with current products unique in the market.”

Campbell has founded and been involved in the start up of many technology companies, including founding and taking public both SEEQ Technology and CHIPS and Technologies. In addition to Coactive, Campbell serves as Chairman of the Board at 3Dfx Interactive, and is on the Board of Directors at 3Com Corporation and Bell Micro.

Coactive has pioneered the area of LonTalk/IP connectivity and is a leading provider of open solutions for connecting device networks, such as LonWorks, to enterprise networks and the Internet. The company offers a full line of routers, servers, and gateways for creating powerful next-generation applications.
